NYFW: Rag & Bone Fall 2010 RTW

Posted in Designer Watch, New Collection by Ciara on February 13, 2010

Though Rag & Bone duo David Neville and Marcus Wainwright have been designing for women since 2005, their Fall 2010 RTW show is the first time their women’s collection has been shown apart from the menswear.  They explained that their inspiration for this collection was taken from the “crazy English guys who climbed Mount Everest in the twenties in tweed.”  Ah-ha.  As a fan of knits (gosh, I love me some “sweater-dressing”) I was thrilled to peruse the images from this show full of textures and patterns that make me not dread the continuous freeeeezing weather everyone seems to be experiencing this winter.  Here are some of my favorite samplings from the show.

Alexander The Great: R.I.P. McQueen

I had every intention of writing a post today that centered around the start of NYFW – a joyous event in my mind and in that of every  fashion darling.  However, when I came across the news of Alexander McQueen’s death this morning I felt anything but joyful.

The official statement found on alexandermcqueen.com:

ON BEHALF OF LEE MCQUEEN’S FAMILY, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN TODAY ANNOUNCES THE TRAGIC NEWS THAT LEE MCQUEEN, THE FOUNDER AND DESIGNER OF THE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN BRAND HAS BEEN FOUND DEAD AT HIS HOME. AT THIS STAGE IT IS INAPPROPRIATE TO COMMENT ON THIS TRAGIC NEWS BEYOND SAYING THAT WE ARE DEVASTATED AND ARE SHARING A SENSE OF SHOCK AND GRIEF WITH LEE’S FAMILY.

LEE’S FAMILY HAS ASKED FOR PRIVACY IN ORDER TO COME TO TERMS WITH THIS TERRIBLE NEWS AND WE HOPE THE MEDIA WILL RESPECT THIS.

Alexander McQueen’s runway shows were always ones that I looked forward to the very most.  More than just a fashion designer, this man was truly a very talented artist in the truest sense.  According to the articles I’ve been able to find, it is believed that McQueen’s cause of death was suicide though no official statement from his family has been made.

Lovers of his eccentric and controversial work are saddened today but we can take comfort in the amazing art he created through which he lives on.

What I (Might Have) Wor(n)… NYFW

Posted in Polyvore by Ciara on September 17, 2009

The “gorgeous” rainy weather continues…  That’s enough to put a downer on my day plus the fact that yesterday while driving home from getting groceries my muffler and entire exhaust pipe decided to “see other people.”  By this I mean, I’m driving and suddenly I hear a weird crunch sound followed by a scraping…  I guess my exhaust system decided to break up with the bottom of my car and instead begin a close relationship with the road.  Ick!  So in the rain (and in heels, no less) I jimmy-rigged the muffler back up with some wire and now I am waiting until I can take the car in to the shop tomorrow.  No fun!

Needless to say, I’m in need of a slight mood booster and what can cheer me up better than anything?  Bright colors, some tough accessories, and Betsey Johnson!

I put together this over-the-top look thinking about what I might have worn if I’d been at NYFW.  A thank you to Polyvore for making me smile!

I Love: Jason Wu – Spring 2010 RTW

Posted in Designer Watch by Ciara on September 13, 2009

How much do I love Jason Wu?!  His Spring 2010 RTW collection just gives me such a charge!  His approach to American sportswear for this collection bumps up more casual pieces with luxe fabric choices and, as always, an impeccable eye for color.  He initially caught my attention with the inaugural ball dress worn by Michelle Obama last year and again, more recently, in the September 2009 issue of American Vogue where he teaches Florence Kane how to sew!

Going through the images from his show was utter eye candy!  It was hard to narrow down a few favorites but here they are:

While Christian Siriano is showing at NYFW (literally, as I type…) I am unfortunately not there.  I have softened the blow of not being in NYC at the moment by immersing myself in other projects and today I got a surprise!  I ordered Diane von Furstenberg’s Book of Beauty: How to Become a More Attractive, Confident and Sensual Woman a few weeks ago and today it appeared at my doorstep!  Though I’ve only worked my way through the first few chapters at this point, I am in love with this book.  Originally published in 1976, the book offers classic and timeless advice for any woman, especially one in my peer group of the transitional twenty-somethings.  It is sincere and motivating and I can’t wait to devour it entirely.

Diane von Furstenberg will be showing tomorrow at 4pm and how I wish I was going to be there!  I can’t wait to see what she has in store!
